If you don't work at the support team at VMware and you can't give me an example of what counts as level 4.

My question is on what bases that you can say I don't have any issues/problem.

The hardware revision is not the issue.

It almost sounds to me like an issue on the switch side or possible the NIC itself.

Can you point the NIC that is working to the VM that isn't and then will it work?

Why not using 5.8.4 by the way, which is the latest version btw

As far as I remember, the problem is that passwords has to be changed right after install from the VA console.

I think that is written in the release notes.

In any case - deploy the OVF, then go to the console and try to login w/ root - it will ask to change the password etc

so do it, and then move on

edit: try searching in this forum, there are few threads on that issue

Hi,

i am trying to configure AD authentication to the vcentre appliance.  i have two accounts, a domain user and a domain admin account.

if i ty domain admin, it works, if i use my user account it fails.  i dont want to just assign domain admin permissions so was wondering if anyone could confirm what user account privileges the user account requires?

View 6 persona management service

I'm troubleshooting a Persona Management issue in View 6.0.1 (we had the same issue in 5.3 but didn't trouble shoot as I was already in the process of building a 6.0 environment from scratch).

In my troubleshooting I noticed something that I need clarification on.  On every parent machine the VMware Horizon View Persona Management service is disabled.  When a user logs into a linked clone pool, that services is set to automatic and is started.  Is that normal behavior?

I have a ticket open with vmware and they are telling me that it should be set to automatic on the parent and this is the root of my issue.  However when I try to start it on the parent, it fails to start.

I really don't understand how a service on the parent can be set to disabled, but on a linked clone it's set to automatic and has started.  I have looked at my GPOs and I don't see one that is turning that on.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

View 5.3.1 Pool Deployment Issue

I am building up a View Test Environment. I've got everything built up, but am at the point of building the Pool.

View clones the Base Image, makes the VMs with the correct names and seems to add the machines to the domain correctly. Machine accounts are made in AD.

Connection server says: View Composer agent initialization state error (18): Failed to join the domain

Problem is, the VMs are conencted to the domain. I can logon as a domain user on the VM's no issue.

I am using Connection Server 5.3.1-build 1634134

Agent is version 5.3.1-build 1634134.

I don't know what logs to post and where to find them to give helpers all the information.

Thanks,

PSOD while updating ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 on Dell PowerEdge r520

$

Hello Everyone,

we have tried to install ESXi 5.5 on our Dell PowerEdge R520 yesterday.

Before we had the possibility to do anything, a PSOD appeared, saying:

No place on disk to dump data.

No file configured to dump data.

(See attached for full Error-Screen)

Because the Installation of 5.5 did not work, we installed v5.1. first. No Problems.

Then we tried to update to 5.5. Same PSOD Error Screen.

Originally the Server was delivered with 1 CPU. (INTEL XEON E5-2407 (2, 2GHZ, 4C, 10M CACH))

We added another CPU and changed the Riser-Cards.

HDDs:

600GB SAS 6GBIT/S 15K 3, 5inch Hard Drive (8x)

2 of them work with raid 1 (Thats where ESX5.1 is installed)

At least 100GB of free space is available.

Raid-Controller:

PERC H710 INTEGRATED RAID-CONTROLLER.

Do you have any Idea, how our problem can be resolved?

I hope you can help us.

Thank you very much in advance and best Regards.

Spotty availability on Hyperic Windows Server 2008 Platform

I have recently moved my Hyperic installation to a new server.  Most platforms are performing normally.  However, the agent I have installed on the Hyperic server is not reporting availability correctly to itself.  Right now, the availability for this platform is around 60% for the last 8 hours (see attached image).  I can't seem to figure out why the availability is so low, when I can RDP and ping the server without any problems.  I do notice that there are a lot of metrics timing out in the agent log file.  However, the log does not give me an indication if this is the cause for the low availability, or how to remedy the time outs.  Any ideas?  I have also attached the agent log file.

Re: Issue Entering Unity Mode Suddenly?

UPDATE (...bump...):

So this morning I got a notification that there was an update for Vmware Player, new version is 6.0.4 build-2249910. So i ran the update and started

up my Windows XP VM but I still got the error that "The guest operating system's resolution cannot be changed.". In my previous post I said I could still

change that even though I got that error, but I'm realizing they probably meant resizing the VM by changing the VMPlayer's window size, not the resolution

from within the Windows XP VM. So I actually cannot change the size of the VM by doing "Enter Fullscreen" or just resizing the window manually,

nothing happens...

So I tried again to completely remove VMTools and reinstall it. After I finished installing and rebooted the VM, I was able to enter into Unity mode and adjust

the window size of the VM, but within 30 seconds to a minute the VM automatically exited Unity mode and I cannot change the resolution anymore. So it

seems like vmtools works correctly for a minute after reinstalling it but then stops working very quickly... And I didn't see any kind of error in vmware.log when

this happened, except for maybe this error, but I'm seeing this one over and over again: *The error is in BOLD below...

Anyone have any ideas at all..???

Two ESXi 5.1 hosts, Windows vm's, no PING or RDP between vm's host to host

Layout; two ESXi 5.1 vm host systems. Both have assorted Windows servers (2008R2), Win 2012 and Windows 7 vm's. Hosts are connected via an UNmanaged switch.

Each host A & B has a:

Standard Switch vswitch0 (192.168.1.x) and Standard Switch vswitch01 (10.10.11.x)

vmKernal Port vmk0 (192.168.1.x) and vmKernal Port vmk1 (10.10.11.x)

Each LAN 192.168.1.x AND 10.10.11.x has a physical NIC assigned (the server hardware SuperMicro motherboard has 2 NIC onboard)

All servers are on the 192.168.1.x LAN. Let us focus there.

In addition we have a few phsical PC's on the LAN that can ping the router and each other-no issues (this suggests that the router is not blocking ping packets withing the network LAN 192.168.1.x)

Servers and Desktop vm's and physical desktops are all on the same LAN, 192.168.1.x.

All have Vipre AV softwware

The router has an external firewall turned on.

There are no firewalls turned on inside the network

All vm's can ping the router.at 192.168.1.1

All vm's on A host can ping each other and access the internet

All vm's on B host can ping each other and access the internet

***** No vm's can ping from host A to host B ********

I did not apply any patches in my tests and that was not necessary. Can you try reinstalling tools by removing the patches?

I have not tried 3.17 kernel yet. Will test on that too and report back.

Great info, thanks. I was helping with ESXi bringup on Mac Pro here, and the Mac I was using had firmware MP61.0116.B05. Probably all the Macs we were working with had that firmware, so we didn't know there was an issue with .B04. (There were some issues with .B05, but we put in workarounds for those.)
